Helping families find solutions for children is one of the great rewards of practicing family law. The hours that our Fresno family lawyers spend in research, negotiations, and litigation are nothing compared to the joy we’ve been able to bring to so many central California families seeking to adopt children over the last two decades. If you’re considering fostering and have concerns or questions, or if you need specific legal advice or help with a particular adoption, call the experienced adoption lawyers at Tomassian, Pimentel & Shapazian today. We are always happy to assist parents with adoption in whatever way we can.
WHEN A CHILD IS ABANDONED
When couples marry and one spouse is already a parent, the other spouse often wants to adopt the child. If the other birth parent is not deceased, that parent must voluntarily agree to the fostering, with the sole exception of abandonment situations. If the other birth parent has abandoned a child for over a year, has had no contact with the child, and has not paid child support during that time, that birth parent’s consent to the adoption is not required. An adoption by a stepparent ends the parental rights of that birth parent while simultaneously granting all parental legal rights and responsibilities to the stepparent.
When you’ve decided and agreed to adopt your spouse’s child, call the lawyers at Tomassian, Pimentel & Shapazian. If the other birth parent has abandoned the child or refuses to consent to the adoption, we can help. With over 75 years of combined legal experience, we’ve dealt with almost every imaginable adoption scenario. Whatever obstacle you may face, we’re confident that we can resolve it for you and your child.

They got all things settled for me and I was well compensated for my injuri (...)
